2023 ASIA SEED CONGRESS

In November 2023, a large contingent of staff from the South Pacific Seeds group of companies attended the Asia Seed Congress 2023 which was held at the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The event was magnificently hosted by New Zealand Grain & Seed Trade Association Inc and attracted over 1,000 delegates from all over the world. The congress was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the New Zealand seed industry to the world.

Many delegates took the opportunity prior to or after the congress to attend farm tours or to visit seed businesses on the Canterbury Plains, which is where most seed production crops are grown in New Zealand.

For our company it is a very important annual event as we get to meet many of the seed breeding companies we work very closely with, firstly to update them on the New Zealand market and secondly to get an understanding of any new varieties they have recently introduced.

The congress is an excellent way for us to keep abreast of new varieties which is incredibly important as we continue to improve our product range.

We were very proud of John McKay, Managing Director of South Pacific Seeds Production, based in Methven, who received the 2023 Asia and Pacific Seed Alliance Award at the Congress.

This award was in recognition for John’s contribution to the New Zealand seed industry.
